The Calabria region is experiencing a significant boost in its agro-food exports to Canada, thanks to a strategic agreement with “Longos Fruit Inc,” a renowned Canadian supermarket chain specializing in high-quality products. This partnership aims to introduce Calabrian culinary excellence to the Canadian market, promoting the region’s rich gastronomic traditions and culture.
To date, orders exceeding half a million euros have been completed, with an additional 2 million euros in the pipeline and projections reaching 5 million euros by the end of the year. These impressive figures were highlighted during a presentation at the Cittadella Regionale by Agriculture Councillor Gianluca Gallo, who emphasized the regional government’s commitment to enhancing Calabria’s image and expanding its export horizons.
John Lettieri, a native of Celico in Calabria and co-founder of “Icjam Import – Export,” played a pivotal role in facilitating this agreement. Approximately twenty Calabrian companies are participating in this initiative, showcasing a diverse range of products, including confectionery, fresh produce, and preserved foods.
Economic Development Councillor Rosario Varì also noted the continuous growth of Calabria’s exports, with double-digit increases each quarter. He attributed this success to the regional government’s development policies and emphasized the importance of internationalization for local businesses.
This collaboration not only highlights Calabria’s rich culinary heritage but also strengthens its economic ties with international partners, paving the way for future growth and global recognition of the region’s excellence.
